Book week

Hi everybody!
Like every year, our school celebrates Book Day for a whole week called BOOK WEEK. The bilingual team has chosen Shakespeare as a topic for this year. We will try to approach Shakespeare's life and his most important writings this month.

The English writer and poet William Shakespeare is considered by many to be the greatest playwright of all time. While most people are familiar with the name of William Shakespeare, no one knows when he was born. Experts know that he was baptized on April 26, 1564 and believe that he was 3 days old at the time. This is why the April 23 date has been adopted as his officially recognized birthday. This date is also the day he died on, 52 years later in 1616.

When Shakespeare left his home in Stratford-upon-Avon for London, it is rumoured that he had to leave because he was caught poaching (hunting illegally). Shakespeare married at 18 and wrote his first known play when he was 25 years old. He was a very well known actor as well as a playwright, performing in his own and other people’s plays.

Shakespeare worked with a company of actors called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, for whom he wrote his plays for and performed with. Most of them were played in the Globe Theatre, that was originally built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern reconstruction is an academic approximation opened to the public in 1997 as Shakespeare 's Globe.

Shakespeare is credited with 39 plays, including Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Julius Caesar. His plays are usually divided into three types: comedies (which have a happy ending), histories (which are based on real events) and tragedies (which have an unhappy ending). William Shakespeare’s writings have been translated into more languages than those of any other author.

Here is a really surprising fact: this great writer’s wife and children were all illiterate — they couldn’t read! You can learn more about him watching the video song.

Andalusian Day

Hi students!
Like every year, we are going to celebrate Andalusian Day with our particular SPORT WEEK. This year we will get the XXI edition. Students prepare different sport activities in physical education classes and the best of them can participe the day before on 28th of February. We also have our personal Champion league in football and Euroleague in basketball.

Christmas from California

Home for the Holidays

Hey everyone! This is your auxiliar, Chelsea. Over the vacation, I spent two weeks in California with my family. To get there, I flew in an airplane for almost 14 hours! Although it was a long journey, I had a wonderful time at home.

Because my dad is Jewish, we celebrated Hannukah, as you can see from the picture of the Menorah. We lit one candle every night for 8 days and ate potato pancakes, called Latkes. Because my mom is Catholic, we celebrated Christmas together too! You can see the beautiful angel on our Christmas tree! The weather was about the same as it is here in Pilas.


While I was in my town, Sonoma, I visited with a lot of friends. I also went to the nearest big city, San Francisco and took pictures at the Golden Gate Bridge, which is famous around the world!






Because I was missing Spain when I was away, I decided to celebrate New Year's Eve with the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight. However, I had no grapes, so I ate 12 blueberries instead (arándanos).
